Creating & Editing Drinks
Tailor any classic recipe to match your personal taste or invent brand new signature drinks for your home bar menu.
Cocktails are meant to be customized. If you prefer your Negroni with a touch more gin, want to swap bourbon for mezcal in an Old Fashioned, or need to catalog an original concoction, Speakeasy gives you the freedom to build and refine.
Crafting a New Drink from Scratch
To enter an original creation into your library:
- Tap New Drink in the top application header.
- Give your creation a memorable name, select the primary spirit, and assign the appropriate glassware (Coupe, Rocks Glass, Collins, or Nick & Nora).
- Add each ingredient line. You can type in fractions or decimals, such as
1 1/2 oz London Dry Ginor3/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice. - Write step-by-step method instructions. If you include timing steps like Shake vigorously for 12 seconds, Speakeasy automatically turns them into interactive timers.
- Tap Save Drink to instantly integrate your new cocktail into your library search and backbar matching.
Importing Ingredients with Quick Paste
Instead of typing ingredients row by row, use the Quick Paste Ingredients field to paste entire ingredient lists directly from notes, recipe books, or websites:
- Open the recipe editor by selecting New Drink or Edit Recipe.
- Paste raw ingredient text into the Quick Paste Ingredients box,
with one ingredient per line (such as
1 1/2 oz Bourbonor3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth). - Select Apply Pasted Specs to populate the recipe rows.
- Add the preparation instructions and garnish information below.
- Save your changes to add your drink into your library.
The parser automatically handles unicode fractions (½, ¼, ¾), decimal quantities, and common bar units including ounces, milliliters, dashes, drops, and barspoons. It also detects base spirits, suggests appropriate glassware and preparation methods, and matching flavor tags.
Riffing on Existing Cocktails
Modifying a standard recipe creates a personal custom riff without destroying the original classic reference:
- Open any cocktail in the Counter View.
- Select the Edit Recipe button in the recipe action bar.
- Modify the ingredient amounts, swap spirits, or update the garnish recommendations.
- Save your changes. Speakeasy marks your drink as a custom riff and badges it so you can always distinguish your house twists.
If you ever want to revert back, you can restore original specs at any time directly from the drink options menu.
Tagging & Collections
Custom tags help you categorize drinks to suit how you entertain:
- Flavor Profile Tags: Tag recipes with descriptors like Smoky, Refreshing, Bittersweet, or Herbaceous.
- Event Tags: Label cocktails with occasions like Summer Patio, Dinner Party, or Holiday Special.
- Pin to Home: Any tag you assign can be pinned as a dedicated collection rail on your Home screen via Vault Settings.
Sharing Your Recipes
Want to share a drink spec with friends or guests?
- Open the cocktail in the Counter View and tap Share Link.
- Speakeasy generates a clean, public link showcasing your cocktail with interactive glassware simulations and precise specs.
- Recipients can view the recipe in their web browser or import it directly into their own Speakeasy library.
